The 2016 Nissan Rogue

Nissan Rogue

There is lots to enjoy about the 2016 Rogue, a small crossover SUV baring the Nissan nameplate. The most popular reasons being its smooth ride quality, user-friendly technology, upscale and versatile interior, and optional three-row seating. But in order for you to maintain the many benefits the Rogue offers, it’s important to stay on top of all necessary automotive services. One service of particular importance to the well-being and longevity of the Rogue (and every vehicle for that matter) is oil changes.
First off, what role does engine oil have in your vehicle’s health? Engine oil provides three main functions:

  • Keep engine components working together smoothly.
  • Draw heat away from the combustion chamber to ensure the engine does not overheat.
  • Prevent carbon, varnishes and other debris from accumulating in the engine

By ensuring your vehicle gets routine oil changes, you will help prevent engine damage down the road. A 10 minute oil change will run under $50, while engine damage will cost hundreds!

Oil that is not changed regularly, or at all, can lead to many problems. One problem that can arise is a buildup in the cooler parts of the engine, such as the crankcase, as well as around the camshafts and valves. Buildups in these areas lead to carbon deposits, or sludge, to wind up in your engine’s oil. When oil is contaminated, it does not work as efficiently as it should. In turn, an expensive engine cleaning or repairs may be in store.

Other problems that can arise include pistons seizing or camshafts being damaged. Problems like these will award you with a mega bill that will have you kicking yourself for not changing the oil as you should have.

But what time frame constitutes ‘regular’ oil changes? Oil changes are recommended when a certain time limit or mileage is reached. You may have heard the familiar interval of every 3,000 miles or every three months. While using the every three month rule is generally a good one, it’s always best to first trust in your vehicle’s odometer. If you don’t drive your car often, you can go longer between oil changes, whereas if you drive your car a lot, you want to ensure you get your oil changed in a timely manner. This is because driving has a much larger impact on engine oil than in a car that just sits there.

Where and how you drive also has a large influence on the frequency of oil changes your vehicle needs. Factors include: extreme heat, dusty or sandy areas, and towing. If any of these circumstances affect your car, you may even consider getting its oil changed more often than typically suggested.

If you’re unsure of when the optimal time to get your oil changed is, check your driver’s manual or ask the professionals. To learn more about oil changes, as well as the 2016 Nissan Rogue, visit our dealership in Easton, PA.
